Nedre Ila – a new environment for secure mental health care

Located at Nedre Ila in Bærum, outside Oslo, and close to Ila Prison and Detention Centre, Nedre Ila is a new purpose-built treatment facility for specialised secure mental health care. The building brings together several specialist services within Oslo University Hospital, encompassing regional and local secure psychiatric services, specialist care for patients with intellectual disabilities and autism, and expertise in secure, prison and forensic psychiatry. Designed for patients with complex needs and often long treatment periods, the new facility combines high requirements for safety and security with modern, patient-centred environments intended to support treatment, rehabilitation and wellbeing.

To furnish Nedre Ila, Healsafe Interior collaborated with Input Interiör and specialist furniture manufacturer Pineapple. As Pineapple’s trusted distribution partner in the Nordic region, Healsafe supplied Zen and Sigma PLUS armchairs, Reef sofas, Ryno chairs and Bold chairs from Pineapple’s range, developed specifically for challenging healthcare and secure environments.

The furniture was selected to meet demanding requirements for safety, durability and functionality while contributing to a comfortable and more welcoming, non-institutional character. The project reflects a philosophy at the heart of Healsafe Interior: that environments with high safety requirements do not have to feel institutional. Through close collaboration and carefully considered interiors, safety can go hand in hand with comfort, dignity and wellbeing.
