This year HealSafe Interior turn 10 years old. During the anniversary year, we would like to highlight 10 concepts that are fundamental for us in the work for safe and healing environments. 10 concepts related to our 3 values: SAFE – RESPONSIBLE – SUSTAINABLE.
During the year, we will regularly publish texts that explain, describe and discuss these 10 concepts. At the end of the year all of them will be published here on BULLETIN BOARD for you to read, share and download (link below).
Some examples of the upcoming concepts that we can mention are Healing environments, Safe interior design and Suicide prevention.

SELF HARM PREVENTION
At HealSafe Interiör, we use the term SELF HARM PREVENTION as a collective term for a variety of safety aspects and solutions that counteract and minimize suicide attempts, self-harm and injuries to other people or furnishings.
For us, it is important that self harm preventive products have an appealing design and that one aspect is not subordinate to the other. Such a combination provides injury prevention that involves minimizing injury risks without sacrificing a ”normalized” and attractive environment.
We believe that, for example, a piece of furniture should be ”normalized” through its shape and expression, but also in terms of comfort and ergonomics, i.e. that the primary function of, for example, a chair means the right height and seating angles as well as material and shape that are perceived as caring. At the same time, the chair’s robustness is essential as well as a care for details that do not cause damage. For example, being offered a comfortable bed that provides good sleep quality can reduce stress and aggression – which is also part of self harm prevention.
With a well-thought-out interior, the staff receive support to carry out their work, but also a better and safer working environment. However, it is important to keep in mind that interior design products can never replace staff knowledge in determining patient/client risk. A self harm preventive and healing environment is therefore best created in close collaboration with
the facilities.
The needs of the individual and the business are met with responsive, well-thought-out and user-oriented design, which is fundamental in our work to create a self harm prevention environment. Different environments have different recuirements on self harm prevention and the interior must be adapted to meet the unique needs of each facility and user.
